Winslow Martin
Writer, Performer & Photographer
Winslow Martin is an American photographer whose career began in 1986 and has since evolved into a lifelong exploration of human resilience, memory, and belonging. His relationship with Armenia began in 1999 during a documentary assignment with Father Dajad Davidian, a journey that marked the beginning of an artistic and emotional bond that has now spanned more than two decades. What he first encountered by chance became a place he returned to with purpose, drawn by the warmth of its people and the luminous quiet of its landscapes.
Across years of visits, Winslow’s camera has captured the everyday and the extraordinary: mountain weddings, village life, and the stillness of monasteries, as well as the grief and courage of wartime displacement. His 147-photo retrospective, To My Armenia, exhibited at the History Museum of Yerevan and the Fine Arts Museum of Vanadzor, established him as the first living non-Armenian to hold solo exhibitions in these renowned institutions. He later expanded this work onto the stage in Boston with We Wait for Your Return: A Love Letter to Armenia, blending photography, narrative, and music.
Winslow often says his mission is simple: “light one candle.” Through his images, he hopes Armenians see themselves, their families, and their enduring spirit reflected back with dignity, gratitude, and profound connection.
